Stunning Antique 18/19th Century European 812 Silver & Gemstone Buckle Brooch

Description: Stunning Antique 18/19th Century European 812 Silver & Gemstone Buckle Brooch This stunning belt buckle was hand made around 1800 in Europe, probably in Germany or the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and features a beautiful ornate floral design adorned with a central oval cut Amethyst and two round Turquoise cabochons. It used to fit a belt 2 1/4" wide and was probably worn by a person of high social status since regular people could not afford Silver items of this size and quality. The buckle still has the internal hinged catch spikes and can be opened sideways through a hinged mechanism. Later, probably in the late 19th century, the buckle - already an antique at that time - was made into a brooch by welding an old-fashioned hinged silver pin and catch mechanism to the piece. It is in very good condition with some patina according to age and can be worn immediately. This very heavy high-quality piece measures 3" long x 3/4" wide and weighs 41.5 grams. Stamped with a "13 loth" (for an ancient silver standard of 81.2% silver) mark and an unidentified city or makers mark "KS". Very unusual and rare piece!
