It was meant to capitalize on the success of The adventures of Superman, which went out of production in 1957. Only a pilot episode ("Rajah's Ransom") was produced, although 12 additional scripts were prepared, should the series be picked up. It's a shame this show didn't go into production, it is really good. The Adventures of Superpup, a 1958 unaired pilot, was meant to capitalize on the success of Adventures of Superman. Superpup featured the first television portrayal of the Superman characters as non-humansTelevision producer Whitney Ellsworth created a pilot that placed the Superman mythos into a fictional universe populated by dogs instead of human beings. The live-action actors were placed in dog-suits to portray the canine versions of the characters of Superman. The pilot was filmed on the same set as The Adventures of Superman, and the characters were portrayed by little people. Whitney Ellsworth later produced The Adventures of Superboy television pilot. The Clark Kent character was renamed "Bark Bent", who worked for the Daily Bugle (not to be confused with Peter Parker's work place) under editor "Terry Bite". His co-worker was reporter "Pamela Poodle". Superpup/Bark Bent was played by actor Billy Curtis, who was also in Superman and the Mole Men with George Reeves. In the pilot, Pamela Poodle is the victim of the evil Professor Sheep dip, who has tied her to a rocket that will be launched into space. Superpup must save her The Superboy screen tests are all the girls trying out for the part of Lana Lang for the 1961 pilot. Watch George Reeves and other cast members pitch cereal in these vintage commercials. It's a Bird...It's a Plane...It's Superman, the Broadway musical, was made into a TV special which first aired during a late night timeslot of February 21, 1975. PLEASE NOTE: This disc is taken from a VHS master recorded the night of the broadcast. Though the image is pretty good it does contain problems associated with old video tape. It does contain several spots were the tape messes up but overall it’s fine. This is about as good as it gets with this title. Filmed on video over the course of 3 days, the show was significantly shortened, the script significantly changed, and the ethnicity of a troupe of evildoers was changed from Chinese acrobats to Mafia-style gangsters. The musical numbers "Doing Good", "It's Super Nice", "So Long, Big Guy" and "We Don't Matter at All" were all dropped from this production, while the sound of the remaining musical numbers was updated to a more contemporary 1970s sensibility. In addition to these, a new musical number was made for the TV special: "It's a Great Country." The show was broadcast on the ABC network under its Wide World of Entertainment late-night umbrella title to poor critical reception. It starred David Wilson as Superman/Clark Kent, Lesley Ann Warren as Lois Lane, Loretta Swit as Sydney Carlton, David Wayne as Dr. Abner Sedgwick, Allen Ludden as Perry White, and Kenneth Mars as Max Mencken. Viewers of this re-make felt that the TV production lacked the energy of the original Broadway show. PLEASE NOTE: WE MUST SHIP TO THE ADDRESS SUPPLIED BY EBAY! THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS!
