Description: Thanks to several outstanding artists, Finnish modern rugs have risen to world fame. However, modern rugs are also based on the tradition of old folk art and skills, which was first reformed by Akseli Gallen-Kallela with his famous "Flame" rug at the Paris World's Fair in 1900. Most of the rugs in the book are from the collection of Friends of Suomen Käsityön Ystävät Oy and a few from Oy Neovius, Oy Helmi Vuorelma and Wetterhoff's Kotiteollisuusopisto, as well as three rugs from the collections of the National Museum taken as samples of old folk art. In addition, the artists Kirsti Ilvessalo and Airi Snellman-Hänninen, as well as the Sotainvaliden Veljesliiton Naisjaosto and the Taideteollisuusyhdistys have also contributed to the creation of this work. Richly illustrated with colour photographs.
