He was born in Belleville, Ontario, in 1949; a member of the Six Nations and lives on the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. Maracle is best known for his carvings in various types of stone that include alabaster, steatite, marble, and soapstone. This sculpture is very solid and quite weighty but feels to me as though it is made from a composite material rather than a stone, potentially making it a limited edition moulded sculpture. There is a little sign of wear but it is in overall great condition with no chips or cracks.
