Description: USS Crossbill AMc-9 Memorial Pearl Harbor 1941 ship naval first day cover with postmark from Honolulu, Hawaii dated July 4, 1960. Blue photo printed on cachet #3363 of this 81' Coastal Minesweeper by Alvin Eckert USCS #9964. Cover franked with a 4 cent flag stamp #1153 (FDOI). The stamp honors the initial statehood of Hawaii and the extra star added to the US flag. This vessel was outside Pearl Harbor with USS Condor when a enemy midget submarine periscope was sighted. USS Ward attacked and sank one of the five trying to enter the harbor. Later, the ship assisted in the salvage efforts at Pearl Harbor and remained in that district for the remainder of the war. She was decommissioned in 1946, and was sold in 1947. (see web pages for details of her design, construction and service) Seller has covers for over 90 different 1941 Pearl Harbor ships.
