Description: This is an extremely rare piece of Historical Staffordshire - a large vegetable dish titled "Niagara Falls from the American Side" by Enoch Wood from his "Shell Border - Circular Center" series. All of the books on Historical Staffordshire only list platters with this view. I've certainly never seen this rarity before, and it could well be unique although I'm told there is another example out there somewhere. Dimensions: length - 12 1/2"; width - 9 3/4"; and height - 2 1/2". Excellent transfer and great dark blue color. Marked on the bottom with Wood's customary impressed mark. Dates to about 1825. Overall condition is excellent with no chips or cracks. As you can see in the photos there is an area on the border at 11:00 o'clock where there may have been some minor retouching. There's no sign of anything on the other side at the same point, so it wasn't a hairline repair. Overall, the appearance is great. Satisfaction Guaranteed.
