Description: Vintage American Exchange Bank Madison, WI Coin Money Deposit Bag - A. Rifkin. This 10"x6" canvas bank coin bag with drawstring from The American Exchange Bank established in Madison, WI in 1871 and active for over 100 years. I believe the bag was from the 1960s, but could be earlier. Cloth tag inside bag reads: "This is a "Quality" Coin Bag. Manufactured by A. Rifkin & Co. WILKES-BARRE, PENNA" I'm not clear on when the bank closed it's doors in Wisconsin, but the building pictured on the bag still stands. The building built in 1871 in the Italian Revival-style, is one of the last such structures left on Madison's Capitol Square. The building was designated a landmark by the Madison, WI Landmarks Commission in 1975, and a registered as a National Landmark in 1980. The American Exchange Bank still has branches in Oklahoma.
