Description: 16.00 Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Vintage Eastman Kodak Recordak MPE-1 Microfilm Reader For Sale- a Vintage Eastman Kodak Recordak MPE-1 Microfilm Reader as pictured. I started cleaning this up including cleaning the multiple lenses only to realize it doesn’t have a bulb in it and there are no labels on the unit to identify what sort of bulb might be required and I cannot find any such information online. So either you know what bulb is needed or are willing to keep searching yourself. I measure just under 35 volts AC at the bulb contacts with no load, so maybe a 32VAC bulb?? By chance I had a bulb pulled from an old Spectronic 20 spectrophotometer and the mount is identical, but the contacts don’t look like they would align and it seemed reluctant to swivel into position so I didn’t force it. I will include that bulb if you remind me, it might make it easier to find a replacement. So there is power at the lamp mount, and the manual hand crank produces exactly the movement expected in terms of film advance. The entire film handling section can be rotated 90 degrees. There are two glass discs that the film would go between, but I may be missing something to hold the top glass in place (note the washer underneath scotch tape in the pictures). I would guess gravity would do the trick in most cases. Since I don’t have a bulb I have not tested it further even though I do have reel microfilm available. In taking out the glass pieces that the lamp fires into, there are three lenses and one piece of flat glass. The lenses were dirty but otherwise fine. The thin piece of flat glass was downright nasty and stuck in place, it actually broke off on the far side when I tried to remove it. I have cleaned it as best I can but it still isn’t perfect, but it does fit back into place so I don’t think the minor breakage on one edge is significant. That piece may need additional cleaning (and I scraped it with a razor blade and still not everything came off). I think, with THINK being the key operative phrase, I think I got the lenses back in with the same up/down orientation but that might require some experimentation as well. All items are sold as is with no warranty offered unless one is specifically stated. Any testing done will be explicitly stated in the listing and any accessory items will also be mentioned or pictured. If it isn’t pictured or mentioned you can assume it is not part of the sale. Because of the size and weight of this shipment I have chosen to let the ebay shipping calculator assess the shipping charges. They are based on an estimated weight of 60 pounds but it’s the box size that will drive the shipping cost crazy. This is one of those pieces that I CAN ship but I don’t want to. Much better if you could come pick it up; it’s stored in a warehouse in 27966 but I live a block off the beach on the Outer Banks of NC, make the trip, turn it into a vacation. NO charge for local pickup. If it has to ship it might be better off shipping freight if it is going to a business. I measure the thing as it sits at 20x20x38"H so IF I can find a box to accommodate it I would guess the size is going to trigger the dreaded OS3 surcharge, so as I said it may well be better to ship it freight. If I can remove the film handler/lens apparatus on top maybe we can avoid the OS3 and trim the cost of shipping down. But I am not messing with that only to find that nobody wants the thing.
