Description: Vintage 1950's Oscar Schmidt Zither..5 chord configuration..46 total strings. These are amazing instruments, made in Jersey City, NJ..the Harp capital of the World..up until the 70's. The majority of harps, zithers, and the like were all made here, and the reputation, craftsmanship, and quality are hard to beat. Truely such an important part of American musical history. The sound and tone is haunting, bold, and very resonate. The Zither has had a full setup and service. It has been cleaned, polished, everything adjusted and conditioned, strings replaced where needed, and tuned. These spend alot of time here at Orphan, during the refurb process they get lot's of attention,and are played constantly while getting all spiffed up. Has the beautiful Mahogany finish, and in excellent condition. Of course some finish wear, and a couple of small dings and smudges, but nothing that is highly noticeable..especially for an instrument 75 years old. A rare bonus, this also comes with the original case, something almost never seen. Also comes with the tuning wrench..and a new felt pick, which really brings out the sound and tone. 20x13", it is a good size Zither, but still very manageable. A must have for your collection, or as an amazing gift. Though tuned here at the shop..I recommend getting a digital tuner. Climate, and transportation affect the tension of the strings..plus once you get it...keeping it tuned makes all the difference...they are inexpensive, fast, accurate..and certainly are your friend.
