Description: This atlas has a copyright of 1945 and it appears to be the oldest USA atlas listing on ebay. It's also the year WWII ended. This is before the Interstate system was built (President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the Federal-Aid Highway Act in 1956). There descriptions of "Interstate Highway System" in this atlas but it must have been a hodge-podge of state roads. There is no I495, Long Island Expressway. Also no JFK airport (The facility on this atlas is Floyd Bennett Field, a naval airstation. A commercial airport opened in 1948 as New York International Airport and was commonly known as Idlewild Airport. Following the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963, the airport was renamed John F. Kennedy International Airport.) While I'm not anywhere near a map or history expert, 1945 seems have been a good time to come home and think about driving the USA. Looks like my family bought this atlas thinking the same. Cover shows it is the "latest edition" at a price of "$1.00". 112 pages includes all the US states then, plus Canada, and Mexico. No Alaska or Hawaii ...48 states. CONDITION: The cover is detached (back and front are seperated from the staples and from each other). There is wear .. missing pieces on the bottom of front cover. There is a foldout map that is missing about an inch of the right-most edge (see pictures). No scribbles or other markings that I can see. I have looked carefully at various maps of interest to me and they seem quite readable.
