This unit has been rewired so fan turns on blowing cool when plugged in with switch in off position and heater comes on when switched on. This allows you to stop the roast and cool the beans without having to dump them out of the hopper, just by switching the power button off. Screen prevents beans from escaping while catching chaff and allowing air circulation. It's easy to use a fork to lift the screen away for a moment and blow chaff away during the early part of the roast when beans are too heavy to escape, and as the roast progresses the screen prevents the dehydrated, lightened beans from flying out.
