A few colors may feel slightly coarse, while others are extremely smooth, preserving the wide traditional range of texture differences in oil colors. Williamsburg Artist Oil Colors have been sorted into four texture categories: Silky smooth, glossy, with little-to-no hint of texture. Very fine textured colors from Williamsburg include Cobalts, Phthalo Blues and Permanent Yellows, Oranges and Reds. Williamsburg Cadmiums are milled to a fine grade to create colors with exceptional density and tinting strength, while maintaining a smooth consistency. For many of our Earth colors, we take great care not to over-mill, allowing the pigment to be felt and to preserve the crystalline facets of the minerals.
