Model: Machete >--> Condition: Very Good Plus - Fine Blade Length: 14.75" TEXT GOES HERETEXT GOES HERE --> Offered here is a WWII Australian machete knife and leather scabbard. They were typically issued with canvas sheaths later on in the war. Earlier versions had the leather sheath. This is a leather sheath. Two companies manufactured these, both Marsden and Die Casters. It is possible they were manufactured by the same factory - Lysaght Works Ltd. Division. Overall, this machete is in Very Good Plus - Fine condition, considering its age. The three rivets securely fasten the checkered grips. They have light wear along the edges. The grip panels have distinct checkering. There are light scattered scrapes on both. The right side panel has a 3/4" crack on the bottom below the rivet. It is still securely fastened and no pieces are coming off. The spine and sides have light handling marks with a couple spots of light erosion, notably on the right side of the blade where the side meets the spine. There are no nicks or dings on the blade, and it appears to have its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a sharp straight point. Most of the remaining finish has started to change to a darker patina. There is a cord tied inside the lanyard rivet. The ends are tied in a knot and the ends are frayed. The left side of the blade towards the tip is marked "D", broad arrow, "D / M-44 / P". The leather scabbard is in Very Good - Very Good Plus condition. The belt loop is functional. There are no rips or tears and stitching is sewn tightly. Inside the belt loop there is some white discoloration. The retaining strap is functional but has creases. The button is securely fastened and has started to tarnish. The rivets are securely fastened and have started to tarnish. There is very light verdigris where the metal meets the leather. There are a few scrapes, but the scabbard retains most of its finish. The belt loop is marked with a broad arrow over "197" and "S.L. 1944" next to a broad arrow. This machete and scabbard will be a great addition to your Australian WWII collection, or a machete collection in general.
