There is a picture of an Officer wearing the M1938 Mounted Dress Uniform with a horse from the Quartermaster Corps. The other picture is of an Officer from either Cavalry or Infantry, I can’t make out the branch devices, but he is wearing the M38 Mounted Dress uniform. These photographs prove that this uniform type was worn by the ARMY after 1938 and before 1943. Description: M1938 Dress Blue uniform of Lt. (later Colonel) Howard A. Cheney of Mitchel Field, NY. He earned his pilot wings in 1933. He served as a Air Mail pilot during the US Postal Service strike of 1934. He was assigned to the 102nd Observation Squadron, 27th Division (Air-Service), NYNG from 1938 - 1939. He Commanded the 25th Bomb Group in 1943, and then was a Colonel in the Antilles Dept., through the end of the war. Please note: the government identification and service history are digital.
